Paul Engels
Paul Engels studied law in London, England and qualified as a British barister. in 1979 he joined Charles Taylor & Co. Ltd., the Managers of the Standard P&I Club, a third party marine liability mutual insurer. His career at Charles Taylor has mainly involved handling liability claims against members entered in the club. in 1998 Paul was appointed Deputy CEO of the division within Charles Taylor responsible for managing the club and after a secondment to the company's Singapore office from 2001-2003 he returned to London to continue work in the marine insurance. Paul has recently retired from Charles Taylor.
Claus Hyldager
He has been CEO of Inchcape Shipping Services since January 2006. He was formerly COO of the company and has held a number of other senior management positions since joining ISS in 1995. ISS offers ship owners, operators, charterers, government agencies and other clients a comprehensive range of marine services from ship agency to P&I representation, surveying, freight forwarding and humanitarian logistics. Claus has over 30 years experience in the industry having served with J Lauritzen A/S both as a Master at sea onboard cruise and reefer vessels, and ashore as superintendent and in training roles, prior to joining Inchcape Shipping.
Sean Moloney
Sean has had 28 years experience in the shipping journalism, publishing and PR sectors. He spent nine years as a reporter, news editor and political editor at Lloyd's List before taking over the management of the maritime, aviation and automotive publication and conference stables at Informa plc. He left Informa in 2000 to set up his own business Elaborate Communications Ltd, which is a major publisher of maritime titles, conference organiser and PR and Marketing provider for the global shipowning, shipmanagement and ship supply sectors. Sean looks after IMMA's Public Relations and Marketing.
Spencer Eade
Spencer trained as a journalist and swiftly moved to the Ministry of Defence for a number of years. Thereafter moved in to the maritime industry, first with small boats and then to work for Hon George Borwick administering the Ellerman Shipping Charitable Trust. Joined the International Shipsuppliers & Services Association (ISSA) in 1998 to run the Secretariat. Spencer assumes the role of IMMA Secretary-General.
Dr. Bas Rikken
Bas Rikken, (1962) Trained as a medical doctor and served in that function in the Royal Dutch Navy. He received further training as a general practitioner and practised for 10 years; during that time was Chairperson of the Dutch Radio Medical Service. He was for three terms a board member of the International Maritime Health Association. He is vice president of the Dutch Nautical Medical Association. Profesionally he runs his own Consultancy and Interim Management Company in Health Care advising businesses on how to best structure their programs. He is an expert in Maritime Pharmacology and Telemedicine.
Alex Taylor
Following an early career as a Deck Officer officer with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Alex joined Hutton's in 2001 as Logistics Manager, later taking up the role of Sales Director before progressing to Managing Director in 2005. Alex has led Hutton's through a number of developments including the acquisition of Marine & Offshore Medical Supplies, later rebranded Hutton's Medical, along with the expansion of the business both organically and inorganically to a network of seven offices providing a one-stop-shop supply solution to the maritime industry. Now regarded as the industry specialist, Alex has developed Hutton's medical department into both a supplier and advisor with in depth knowledge of the working requirements of WHO and flag state requirements.
Svein Sorlie
Senior Vice President, Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA, Norway is overall responsible for regulatory affairs in the Wilhelmsen group. From 1988 to 2005 Svein Sorlie was President and CEO for Barber Ship Management (now renamed Wilhelmsen Ship Management) – one of the world’s leading ship management companies. Svein is holding a degree in naval architecture and marine engineering from Norwegian University of Technology and Science in Trondheim. He joined the Wilhelmsen group of companies in 1983 after 7 years of employment with Det Norske Veritas.
Donald R. Yearwood
Mr Yearwood is an engineering graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy and a graduate of City University of New York with a Masters degree in Management. After serving in the merchant marine he entered the field of ship design subsequently holding positions in project management, management consulting and computer systems. He has been CEO of a number of diverse businesses in the US and abroad including an international ship brokerage organisation, as well as US and foreign shipping companies and petroleum exploration and production operations. In 1997 he formed Sanborn Yearwood & Associates (SYA), a firm engaged in management consulting with a marine emphasis. He has served as a director and/or chairman of a number of commercial and fraternal organisations including a Fortune 500 public company, one of the largest diversified privately owned companies in the US, a bulk shipping/trading company, an IT company and two international insurance companies serving ship owners. Mr Yearwood has taught and lectured at a number of colleges and universities on subjects including general management, management of technical organisations, finance, international business, marketing and entrepreneurship.
